Some people say that email marketing no longer works, yet others say it is the highest converting online marketing channel. Whichever side you choose to take it is definitely a channel worth trying for your online business.

The most efficient way to run an email marketing campaign is by using a marketing automation platform like Mailchimp.

You can upload and organise email lists, create stunning looking newsletters with the drag and drop editor and send multiple email campaigns to your subscribers.

There are a few pre-requisites that you need to know before starting to use Mailchimp.

#1 You must have an email address which is linked to your domain, you cannot use an email address from a provider such as Gmail or Hotmail or Yahoo.

#2The people on your email list must have agreed to receive marketing emails from you. If you spam people with Mailchimp you will get banned very quickly. Mailchimp will give you a warning if you get too many unsubscribes or rejected email addresses.

You can use email marketing to drive high numbers of traffic to a new blog or offer on your website and then retarget to them using Adwords or Facebook.

Retargeting allows you to show ads to people who have previously visited your website as they browse the internet or Facebook. It is a great way to keep your brand at the forefront of people’s minds as long as you don’t do it too quickly or too often.

A simple rule to follow is don’t remarket to people in the first 24 hours and only show them a maximum of 3 remarketing ads per day.

Use a signup tool on your website or Facebook page to collect people’s email addresses and start a simple email campaign which lets subscribers know when you add a new blog to your site.

There are lots of options in Mailchimp from landing pages to connecting directly to your remarketing accounts. After you have sent a campaign you will also be able to see who opened your email, which links they clicked on and how often they opened the email.

Driving traffic to your website through email and then remarketing to turn those visitors into customers is a great way to promote your business online with very little budget.
