Bangkok–17 Oct–SET

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), together with Kasikornbank plc, Muang Thai Life Assurance plc, PTT plc, Thailand Futures Exchange pcl (TFEX), and other partners in the capital market, will hold Young Financial Star Competition 2013 (YFS 2013) to choose new champion young financiers from among 5,628 university students to win scholarships and training programs worth a total THB 5 million (approx.USD 160,000).

SET President Charamporn Jotikasthira said the competition boosts the capability of Thai youth to benefit from the rapid pace of financial innovations, builds their financial strength, and deeply immerses them in a culture of social responsibility, paving the way for them to become financial experts.

“YFS is one of SET’s education activities for social development. It has been held for 11 consecutive years, with a total of more than 40,000 candidates. This year’s competition is more intensive than before, and there is a new prize, the TFEX Derivatives Star Team award, given to the best derivatives expert in the competition. This year drew 5,628 candidates from 96 universities nationwide. Out of this group, 357 students from 37 universities were selected for a YFS camp, during which they trained in the theory and practice of financial planning, investment, and life insurance. They also took the Securities Investment Consultant and the Derivatives License examination, so that they might qualify for this key capital market profession. The 50 persons in the final round will get more intensive training in financial planning, investment, personnel development, presentation skills, and social responsibility concepts during October 2013 and January 2014,” Charamporn added.

In addition to the four alliance partners mentioned above, YFS 2013 is supported by the Association of Securities Companies, The Capital Market Development Fund Foundation Thai Financial Planner Association, and the Thailand Securities Institute.

SET has increased the financial capabilities of Thai society by enhancing financial literacy for youth from primary school through university levels through many projects, such as Personal Finance for Youth, SET Junior Financial Club, Diamond Crown in Economics competition, and SET Young Generation.
