Windows 10 has arrived ….

Windows 10 has arrived, and I am sure that many of you have already received your invitation to upgrade to Windows 10 free of charge. All users of W7 and W8 are entitled to a free upgrade to W10, but how to do it?
Well here is a short guide of how to upgrade to Windows 10.

Reserve your free upgrade.
1. To reserve your free upgrade, click on the Windows 10 icon located in the lower right side of the system tray.

Don’t see the Windows 10 icon? First, try running Windows Update and install any available required and recommended updates for your existing Windows 7 or Windows 8 PC. Still don’t see the icon? You won’t get the app if:

Your copy of Windows is not activated with a genuine license. To check this, from Start, search for File Explorerand select it from the search results Press-and-hold or right-click This PC, and select Properties. Your Windows activation status is listed at the bottom. You must activate Windows with a genuine license before you can upgrade. After activating, run the troubleshooter in the Resolution section below..

You are missing pre-requisite Windows Updates. See the Resolution section
Your device is or has been connected to a domain, or connected to Mobile Device Management (MDM). Check with your IT administrator for information about upgrading Windows.

You have an Enterprise edition of Windows, or if you are running Windows RT or Windows 8.1 RT. These editions are not eligible for the free upgrade offer to Windows 10.

2. Assuming you do have the upgrade app, click “Reserve your free upgrade” in the app window.
3. Enter your email if you want confirmation of this reservation.
4. We’ll download Windows 10 to your device and notify you when it’s ready. You can cancel your reservation at any time. 1
Note: This free Windows 10 upgrade is available for PCs and tablets; the free Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will be available for most phones starting later this year.2

Upgrade
After you have reserved, you are in the queue for your upgrade. Watch for your notification from the Get Windows 10 app to arrive in the coming days or weeks. At that point, you can upgrade immediately or pick a time that works for you.

Like all new software, there have been reports of several bugs with W10 and there have already been a couple of bug fixing updates from Microsoft. Some people like to leave the updating to a new version for a few months to see how it pans out, but fear not as you have a full year from the release date of W10 to claim your free update.

We have already supplied several W10 systems and assisted some clients with their upgrade, so if you do need help feel free to contact our office on 038 360 400.
