A seriously good sense of quality at the Comedy Pub

The Comedy Pub, the name suggests a place where a good laugh is expected to be had, and given the fact this is meant to be an Irish-style pub owned by a French native, the jokes could probably come thick and fast.

Yet, the Comedy Pub is actually one of the newest upmarket multi-functional food, drink and entertainment places to have opened its doors in Pattaya. Located in what is colloquially known as Soi Batman, but is officially Sukhumvit Soi 46/3 in south Pattaya, the Comedy Pub is quite serious about providing some genuinely impressive ambience alongside good food, reasonably-priced drinks and regular entertainment.

One of its main draws is the claim that it offers the cheapest Guinness in Pattaya with a 50 cl. glass of draught Guinness just 175 baht.

Guinness is not the only imported beverage available at the Comedy Pub. They also offer such delights as Magners Cider and Old Speckled Hen as well as Heineken draught. The Comedy Pub offers a quite unique and unusual promotion where customers can sample Guinness, Heineken, Magners and Old Speckled Hen in four separate 15 cl. glasses.

There are also a number of other imported canned beers, including Peroni, Murphy’s, Ruddles, Hen’s Tooth, and Australian Victoria Bitter (VB). Some of their imported soft drinks include Dandelion & Burdock, R-Whites Lemonade, Tizer, and Vimto.

While the downstairs area is full-on Irish-themed, there is an upstairs section where the management have created a Cigar Lounge.

This is quite a unique innovation, and it’s not just been an afterthought. The owners have spent a lot of time and effort creating space which combines ambience by way of the well-appointed fixtures and fittings, the comfortable seating, a pool table, flat-screen TVs and a choice of some of the finest cigars available in Pattaya.

Every day is happy hour from 6:00-7:00pm, with a buy one, get one free offer or you can buy a 25 cl. glass of Heineken draught for just 59 baht.

The food menu has, not surprisingly given that the owner is French, been carefully put together. It overs the usual range of international-style dishes you would expect: from a choice of English, American, German and Thai breakfasts, all with unlimited refills of coffee, tea or orange juice, to salads and soups and a solid main course menu.

Among the specialties are English-style fish and chips, Lamb shanks and pasta and spaghetti dishes. Perhaps the standouts are the Hungarian Ghoulash or a special ghoulash which is created using Guinness as the base.

As with most venues of this type, all major sporting events are broadcast live on their big-screen TVs and there is also live music every Friday and Saturday night.

While the Comedy Pub might not deal specifically with providing a laugh by way of stand-up comedians, it is the kind of place which should put a smile on the face of customers when they look at the kind of value for money they get from a visit to this bold new venue.
