Witherspoons offers a good variety of staple favourites
Located on Soi Buakhow, almost at the corner of the junction with Soi Lengkee and opposite Soi Diana Inn, Witherspoons is a British-owned bar and restaurant which is very much a sports lovers’ venue with its multiples of large TV screens.
It has a standard English-style pub feel and although they have 65 chairs they can accommodate anything up to 100 customers on a busy sports night. Witherspoons is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with the popular kitchen open from 7:00am until midnight every day.
The menu reflects the enduring popularity of British food, from the traditional Sunday roast, bangers (sausages) and mash (mashed potatoes), fish and chips, steak and kidney pie, to ploughman’s lunch, pork pies, scotch eggs and crusty rolls as well as the trusty favourite of an English breakfast.
The English breakfast special, between 7:00am and midday, consists of two eggs, two slices of bacon, two sausages, hash brown, beans, fried bread and toast as well as either a cup of tea or coffee is great value for just 150 baht.
The chef’s daily special, which can be anything from a traditional English classic like fish and chips to steak and kidney pie to bangers and mash or even an Indian curry, a burger or Australian steak.
As with most places around town, Witherspoons will be hosting a Christmas dinner, which will consist of three courses for just 895 baht. Management recommend booking beforehand to save disappointment.
Witherspoons prides itself on showing every sporting event possible, from all over the world. If it’s big in sport, it’ll be on at Witherspoons.
They also offer a great service whereby customers can have a major event recorded and then watch the replay the next day. This is perfect for those matches and games which might start at 3:00am and people are just too tired to stay up and watch.
In recent times the management have increased the variety of their draft beer selection to 12. This means someone from almost anywhere in Europe or the America’s should be able to recognize a familiar draft beer to quench that thirst.
Witherspoons is a no-hassle pub where customers can simply relax and watch the world go by, or sit down with a meal or just a drink and read the wide selection of daily newspapers, from the Thailand-based English language newspapers to copies of the Newspaper Direct-supplied daily newspapers from the United Kingdom and elsewhere. These are extremely popular and are well-thumbed by the end of any day. As with most other places around town the pub offers free WiFi for customers.
During major sporting events the bar offers free snacks and drinks at various times.
