The Sportsman Pub gears up for high season

The Sportsman Pub and Restaurant in Soi 13, between Beach Road and Second Road, is one of the longest-running British-style bar-restaurants in Pattaya. Among the myriad of reasons for its success are food quality and portion sizes, staff attentiveness, hands-on management, and ambience.

The Sportsman is rated in the top 20 restaurants in Pattaya by Trip Advisor (out of more than 700 local eateries which have been given ratings) and since it first opened in 1997, it has garnered a strong expat and regular visitor support base.

Introduced earlier this year and something that proved instantly popular is the all-you-can-eat pizza, pasta, salad buffet every Friday night between 6:00 and 10:00 pm, for just 249 baht per customer.

The traditional Sunday all-you-can-eat carvery still remains. And why wouldn’t it, considering it is often rated among the best in Pattaya. There are always five roast joints, a special steak and kidney pie, Yorkshire pudding, and all the other elements one would expect of a carvery.

Of course, the Christmas season will soon be upon us, and the Sportsman Pub will once again be running its popular four-course, plated Christmas dinner, for just 995 baht. Popular is the word, and they are taking bookings now, so if you want to be sure of a table, get in early.

Scandinavians have their traditional Christmas meal on 24 December, and the Sportsman will host a special Scandinavian Christmas buffet on that night. Naturally, all are welcome.

The management have been serving traditional, hand-made meat pies since they first opened. Using only the best ingredients, their Bowmans Pies have proved extremely popular. So much so, Bowmans Pies has been established as a separate entity to promote and distribute this quality product to supermarkets around Pattaya and into other parts of Thailand.

The Sportsman prides itself on giving customers good, old-fashioned English-style dishes on decent-sized plates. There is a substantial English-style all-day breakfast, while the fish and chips is another specialty.

There is a children’s menu, Thai dishes, as well Indian curries, burgers and some of the best and most substantial desserts for the sweet-toothed of any eatery in Pattaya. The daily specials change every two days, with the details posted on Facebook.

As far as drinks are concerned The Sportsman has a great selection of bottled beers, as well as Guinness, Heineken, Tiger, and Thatchers Gold cider on draught. All spirits are available and there is a decent wine list. There are beer specials every weekday.

The Sportsman hosts a weekly free-entry quiz on a Thursday evening, starting at around 8:00pm. There is a free pie and chips for all contestants at the end of the fun quiz, and a rollover jackpot question.

There is a good quality pool table and seven large wall-mounted TVs scattered about in good viewing locations showing all sports as well as news channels.
