Basilico specialises in Rimini style thin crust pizza.
It’s founder Sergio Forte is native of Rimini. He opened his first restaurant Bella Vista in Krabi in 2001. A year later he moved to Bangkok to be one of three partners in the opening of Limoncello. In 2004 he built this restaurant in the style of architecture found on the Adriatic coast of Italy that uses copious glass allowing diners to feel almost out of doors. The dining room closest to the road, with the wood burn pizza oven center stage for authenticity is the most lively. For those looking for something more quiet there is a second dining room at the back of the restaurant. In addition there is a semi covered area for those looking to dine al fresco.Total seating capacity for 200 with generously spaced tables.
“I brought my style of thin-crust pizza to Bangkok,” said Forte. “That’s Rimini style. Napoli pizza is slightly thicker.”
Pizza Chef Marco won The World Pizza Championship2001 organized by the magazine Pizza e Pasta Italiana and PizzaNew held at Salsomaggiore Terme (Parma), Italy, with his Arrostino di Maiale, roast pork shoulder pizza with tomato, mozzarella, speck ham, porcini mushrooms, rocket leaves & parmesan – definitely a must try. He has been in Thailand for eight years the last five perfecting the taste of Basilico’s 50 Rimini style pizza.
To ensure authenticity main ingredients such as pasta, Sam Remo tomatoes and semolina flour have to be imported from Italy. Pizza bases are made with local flour milled to Basilico specifications, 12% hummidity in the dough then baked in the pine fired wood oven.
For an appetiser we opted for a very tasty mozzarella in carroza, deep fried mozzarella cheese crisp on the outside with a succulently soft interior. Our salad choice was insalata di rucola e salsicca rocket salad with home made Italian sausage.
We recommend their signature Basiicio pizza with its Rimini style thin crust topped with tomato, mozzarella, the light slightly sweet mascarpone cheese, Parma Ham and rocket leaves.
Their imported spaghetti is cooked Italian style, perfectly al dente topped with allo scoglio sauce seafood cooked in white wine, evocative of the restaurant’s Adriatic coast heritage.
It was a hard choice between the two Italian classic desserts, Panna Cotta or Tiramisu made with ‘ladies fingers’ biscuitsimported from Italy.
Wine is an integral part of the Italian dining experience. They have some 40 labels on the list, wines by the glass THB280 and affordably priced house wines for just THB 170.
There are two ways to conclude a delicious Italian meal. With ice cream gelate premium home made or tartuflo an Italian dessert with two or more ice cream flavours with fruit syrup or frozen fruit in the middle. Then premium Italian coffee, its quality is the benchmark of the restaurant.
In addition to the original restaurant they have two other branches in Sukhumvit Soi 20, on the opposite side of the main road and Ari Soi 7, the emerging night life and expat residential area.
