Witherspoons bats deep
Located on Soi Buakhow, almost at the corner of the junction with Soi Lengkee and opposite Soi Diana Inn, Witherspoons is very much a sports lovers’ venue with its multiples of large TV screens. It also has a good reputation for the quality and quantity of its pub grub.
It has a standard English-style pub feel and although they have 65 chairs they can accommodate anything up to 100 customers on a busy sports night. Witherspoons is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with the popular kitchen open from 7:00am until midnight every day serving English, European and Thai cuisine.
There’s a daily English breakfast special between 7:00am and midday which consists of two eggs, three slices of bacon, two sausages, hash brown, beans, fried bread and toast as well as either a cup of tea or coffee for just 150 baht.
The chef’s daily special, which can be anything from a traditional English classic like fish and chips to steak and kidney pie to bangers and mash or even an Indian curry, a burger or Australian steak.
Witherspoons is a no-hassle pub where customers can simply relax and watch the world go by, or sit down with a meal or just a drink and read the wide selection of daily newspapers, from the Thailand-based English language newspapers to copies of the Newspaper Direct-supplied daily newspapers from the United Kingdom and elsewhere. These are extremely popular and are well-thumbed by the end of any day. As with most other places around town the pub offers free WiFi for customers.
During major sporting events the bar offers free snacks and drinks at various times. Starting with this season of the English Premier League they will be selling Heineken and Tiger draft at 100 baht a pint during all live games.
Apart from the English Premier League, Witherspoons also covers the Scottish League Football, Tennis, Basketball, UFC, AFL, NRL and all major events live.
There are draft beer specials every day between midday and 8:00pm, with Guinness being especially popular at just 150 baht. Other popular drinks include Magners, Old Speckled Hen, Brown Leffe, Hoegartten and every month they have a guest ale from the UK.
If sitting and doing not much is not for you, Witherspoons also have a 9-foot American-style pool table which is free for customers.
Witherspoons management are happy to try and show any sporting event requested by customers; all you need do is simply make your desires known and they will do their best to accommodate.
Currently the Ashes cricket series is on between England and Australia, and attracts plenty of supporters of both teams who can be guaranteed to engage in good-natured banter in the bar.
Witherspoons has attracted a strong and loyal clientele of expats and regular Pattaya visitors over the years. These regulars come from a multitude of countries: Brits probably make up the bulk, but there are plenty of Australians, Americans, Canadians, Belgians, Dutch, Germans, French and almost any other nationality you might care to think of who have enjoyed the friendly ambience of Witherspoons.
