Fresh and tasty, the La Cantina promise
La Cantina Restaurant is one of many in the Sukhumvit Road area within walking distance of the Asok BTS and interchange station with the MRT, and located in Soi 16, which is becoming ‘a la mode’ in Bangkok circles. Being close by to these major transport arteries is obviously a plus for a restaurant like La Cantina, but it also boasts two significant plusses. The first of these is that in the location stakes it is directly opposite the popular Foodland Supermarket, making it highly visible to the supermarket’s customers. The second is that co-owner and Chef-Manager Roberto Rota is probably one of the most experienced in his field.
Roberto has spent time working in five-star hotels in Italy, Switzerland and Spain, as well as working on luxury cruises. This was after obtaining his degree in F&B Management and a Somelier Diploma by the time he was just 23 years old.
When he came to Thailand he worked at places like Il Tartufo with Chef Flavio Manzoni, at Gianni as Restaurant Manager (his favourite restaurant) and F& B Consulting Thailand, and outside.
He decided creating his own home-style eatery would be the perfect complement to his time in Bangkok, emphasizing the importance on healthiness in cooking, which is his main philosophy, after taste, of course. Roberto is trying to obtain more certification and makes sure to use organic products.
Locals and regulars to the Foodland Supermarket can’t help but notice La Cantina and there’s no doubt once someone has tried dining there either for lunch or dinner, or simply wandered in for a coffee and a snack, they’ll be back again. According to recent review by the website Restaurants of Bangkok and TripAdvisor, La Cantina ‘is one of the brightest’ of the trattoria-style Italian eateries in the capital.
Roberto has tried to cover all the bases when it comes to customer satisfaction. He started with the basics, and with plenty of professionals working in the area, the capacity to talk with them and ascertain what they wanted has led to changing Daily Specials.
There is no point in just being a standard restaurant, so La Cantina specializes in 100 per cent home-made food. Using the best local and imported ingredients, the emphasis is on quality, freshness and the healthy aspects of their dishes.
La Cantina focuses on home-made, mouth-watering pastas and gratins, delicious breads, crispy salads and desserts to die for. In that same website review La Cantina’s risotto was described as ‘superb’, as were the home-made pasta and low sugar desserts.
They can cater for an intimate dinner for two, to a corporate lunch or presentation dinner. The wine list is extensive, but the counter to that is they have what Roberto calls detox fresh juices, made every day with organic vegetables and fruits. So, drink and be merry by all means, and recover the next day or even that evening with a healthy fruit or vegetable drink.
La Cantina have a different menu special each day. Continuing to keep the customer healthy while also letting them enjoy the more decadent tastes theme, La Cantina supply a double home-made Italian healthy tapas with every glass of wine.
They know there are plenty of families with young children living in the area so every child who comes to La Cantina with their parents or guardian gets a free homemade chocolate salami.
Like any good restaurant, La Cantina also does takeaways for those too busy to be able to sit down and enjoy a relaxing meal or snack. So, next time you’re shopping at Foodland, or just happen to be nearby, or want to join an evening at the long table, check out La Cantina and see why this is one top-notch fresh and tasty eatery in town.
La Cantina is open every day with lunch from 11:00am to 3:00pm and dinner from 5:00pm until 10:30pm. Call them on 02 259 6669 or check out their website: www.lacantinabangkok.com
Roberto loves to say to all guests: Welcome, feel at home, feel relaxed and ask whatever you want, “we’ll try to give you more, and better!”.
